Gold Star for the Meaning of Life Wednesday, May 10, 2006 to hump or not to hump hump day...but not for me. for the 2nd time in two fucking years i have to work this saturday. bummer. Not looking forward to it too much. High on Stress is playing on May 19th Friday night at Lee's Liquor Lounge with Anonymous Americans (Omaha, NE) X-Ray Hip (Tom Cook formerly of the Magnolias) and quite possibly Lazy Ike and the Daredevils if Ike can swing it. I've been working on some new songs lately but the lyrics haven't been coming lately. Soon enough a flood of horseshit will present itself on my handy dandy notepad. I've got two songs that i'm specifically working on. One is called "cop light parade" and the other doesn't have a title quite yet. Ben (guitars, vocals, keyboards, lap steel, smelly farts) is in China on business yet again so we've got a week off from practicing so i've just been watching the Twins and trying to not be a crab ass which comes and goes in spurts for no apparent reason. well i guess my break is over. back to the cube....fuck posted by Nick Leet at 8:43 AM 0 comments Thursday, May 04, 2006 weird day Here's a few weird things that happened to me or I have witnessed today... I had a doctor's apt this morning and my nurse was a woman that looked like Harry Carrey. I went to Best Buy in Brooklyn Center and one of the employees was challenged by one of his friends who was hanging around the store to do 35 push ups. So yes, you guessed it, Best Buy's finest employee on the sales floor does 35 push ups while counting very loudly as Best Buy stock plummets. 3rd I was at Barnes and Noble today and there was a book called "Depression for Dummies" not only are these poor readers depressed but now they have to be abused by their own self-help books. that's it for now. posted by Nick Leet at 1:01 PM 0 comments Monday, May 01, 2006 Monday May 1st you've come so soon.... What a son of a bitchin day. crabby asshole for the hell-of-it. anyway. The weather has sucked for the last few days. been raining pretty much non-stop. I heard a cool band today from California called The Animators. Check em out on CDBABY they have song clips galore. The weekend was lazy and wet. High on Stress played on Saturday night with Anchorhead and Battle at Sea and it was a near sell out crowd. Only about 5 people away from capacity which is always good. We didn't have our greatest show but we had a good time nonetheless. The sound at the bar was horseshit and a speaker kept crackling and cutting out. Saturday morning into afternoon I spent interviewing Kevin Bowe (songwriter, producer, solo artist, guitarist of Paul Westerberg, etc...etc...Very intelligent guy, great stories and can't wait to get this thing written. It will be published in a future edition of Rift Magazine. http://www.riftmagazine.com I'm also about to get started on an interview and article about local Minneapolis/Chicago dance pop band The TV Sound so look for that in the coming months. Well I guess that's it for now. Wear a raincoat it's fucking cold and wet. xo NICK i'm here now www.coplightparade.blogspot.com come visit me i'm not going to be posting here anymore after two years if you want to keep up on my ramblings and other horseshit go to www.myspace.com/nicholasleet word. We are playing with Bob McCreedy and Weill. if you have never heard of Bob McCreedy, he is a darn fine songwriter. In fact Ryan Adams has called him "the greatest songwriter in america." that's right. come on down. the show is $5. 9pm. 21+ and the minnesota music awards is happening at first avenue that night too. come check it out. see ya there. HoS www.highonstressband.com www.myspace.com/highonstress www.cdbaby.com/highonstress The production/recording is outstanding! Top notch! I really like the songs and vibe. I hear a little "Achin' to Be" era Replacements and Wilco here and there. Definetley hear some Chris Mars-isms on drums! Good job! The tone of the guitars and how the drums sound in the mix kick ass. Really great job on the recording/engineering/mixing. --C.Dush (musician/songwriter) We've got some great shows coming up in the next couple of weeks. TONIGHT!!! we'll be playing the middle slot down at the Hexagon Bar. The best part about these shows is they don't charge a cover. So you have more money to save up for that frog tattoo you've had your eye on! No cover, music at 10:00, High on Stress at 11:00. Then, next Wednesday, we are playing the middle slot down at the 7th St. Entry, opening for Bob McCreedy - who is GREAT! That night is also the MMA awards in the Main Room - so it's a guaranteed great night of music. "I follow the lines until they turn to mud." Martin Melville Rock like you're at the end of the line.
